The Pope

The Pope

The Pope is the head of the Catholic Church.   As Jesus said: “You are Peter, and upon this rock I will build my Church”  (Matthew 16:18).  He is called “Pope,” from the Greek pappas, meaning father, because he is the father of all the faithful.  He also holds theses titles:  Vicar of Christ, Bishop of Rome, Successor of St. Peter, Supreme Pontiff, Patriarch of the West, Primate of Italy, Archbishop and Metropolitan of the Roman Province, Sovereign of the State of Vatican City, and Servus Servorum Dei (Servant of the Servants of God).
